I really love this red lentil dhal recipe inspired by @kristofsteiner. I like his recipes very much, he is proficient in the cuisine of many nations, and I like the way he combines herbs and different flavors.
I was in an Indian mood the other day when I was browsing his recipes and I came across this this one. My stomach crumpled immediately, and since the red lentils - unlike the other legumes - are cooked in short time, I made them right away.
Ingredients
1 cup red lentils
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tbsp fresh, grated ginger
1 tbsp curry powder
1 tbsp garam masala
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander seeds
1/2 tsp curcuma
1/4 tsp cayenne or chili pepper
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Water
Method
1. Sautée the chopped onions with a little bit of water until softened.
2. Add the garlic, ginger and herbs, stir together.
3. Add the red lentils, and water to cover it by 1 inch.
4. Cook it on low-medium heat under lid until fully cooked (ca. 25 min.)
5. You can serve it with cooked brown rice and sautéd spinach.
